This wine cellar, built in the district of Fratta of Monticelli Brusati, was already lauded with admiration in the mid-1800s. The Knight of the Grand Cross, Luigi Rossetti, had created the largest and most beautiful cellar in the province: with four sections of gallery arranged in a Greek cross, it could accommodate a good six thousand hectolitres of wine, a huge amount for that time. Hence the nickname given to it by the locals: el cantinù, or the great cellar.
Upon Luigi Rossetti’s death, ownership passed hands several times, until 1979 with the birth of Antica Fratta. Today Antica Fratta “restarts” with its new, great ambitions, with the firm intention of becoming the “Essence” of Franciacorta
